Biography

Lindsey Choo is an independent reporter with reporting experience in breaking news, technology, internet culture and investigations.
She has previously written for Forbes, The Wall Street Journal, Fast Company, and more. She also contributes to Platformer News, a newsletter focused on the intersection of Silicon Valley and democracy. She's a graduate of the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. Prior to that, Lindsey was a senior staff writer for her undergraduate college newspaper, the UCSD Guardian.

While at The Wall Street Journal, she broke news related to the Senate's demands for Meta to address its efforts to prevent the sharing of child sexual abuse material, wrote a front page story about how people are using celebrity Cameos to break bad news, and reported on other social media, AI, and creator economy stories, like the launch of Threads and what the Grimace Shake trend was all about. She regularly appeared on WSJ podcasts to talk about her stories. She now routinely contributes feature stories focusing on AI, the creator economy, and cybersecurity.

As a financial technology reporter at Protocol, she was one of the first to break news that the Federal Reserve was looking for public input while considering a US digital currency, delivered reported analysis of the rise of crypto ads at the Super Bowl, and wrote about how traditional banks could cash in on the subscription economy.

At Platformer News, she regularly contributes to the newsletter, including reporting for a story about online publishing platform Substack's Nazi problem, and the crossroads it was at to make a decision about its content moderation policies.

Venturing outside of the tech beat while at Columbia, she wrote a previously unreported story on how the Excelsior scholarship, New York state's financial aid designed for low to middle income students, weren't actually reaching the poorest students in the Bronx. She also reported and co-hosted an episode of Shoe Leather, an investigative podcast that goes behind the scenes of forgotten stories that shaped New York City, bringing listeners back to 1988, on the night of the Tompkins Square Park riot.

Born and raised in Singapore, Lindsey enjoys boxing, reading, and playing board games.
